a tropical adventure awaits

The combination of endless authentic black sand beaches, untouched tropical landscapes, and traditional palm thatched architecture, makes El-Paredon possibly one of Guatemala’s most interesting, and least well known, travel destinations.

THE YOGA

Yoloha Yoga Studio is home to many of us.   The same enviroment will be provided during our stay in Guatemala.  The setting is absolutely perfect to disconnect and focus on yourself without all the distractions of daily life.  Imagine going to that morning class but not having to rush off to work.  Maybe you relax by the pool and enjoy a slow morning after.  There will be two group classes daily, generally morning and early evening before sunset.
Addtional: *Reiki & Private Yoga are available*
Both can be scheduled for an additional cost that goes directly to our instructors.

THE SURF

Though the focus of our stay in Guatemala is our yoga practice on and off of the mat, one can’t come to El Paredon without trying to surf. If you are a surf enthusiast then you will be relieved to know that this village has a wave machine located in front of it. The direction of the beach makes for consistent waves year around and is an excellent place for beginner to advanced surfers.  The local crowd is laid back and encouraging. The ocean is beautiful and the view of the volcanos from it can be breathtaking in the morning. We will have a mix of surf instructors from the U.S. and EL Paredon to work with you. Our goal is to make sure everyone catches waves, smiles, and stays safe in the process. Our daily class will offer levels of lessons depending on where you are at in your surfing journey. If it’s the first time then there is no better place to learn.
*One on One coaching is available as well for an additional cost.

THE ADVENTURE

El Paredon is a charming fishing village.  It is a small town of 1,000 residents, many have lived and fished there their whole lives.  Increased tourism has supported local enterprises throughout the village and surrounding areas.  There are multiple local eateries and plenty of foreign-owned establishments to hang, drink, and eat.  The national park is filled with miles of estuary, river, and canals.  The national forest’s main feature is its vast area of mangrove forests that lines its waterways.
  • Eat and walk around the village
  • Boat trip through the estuary to the river mouth for a sunset bonfire
  • An afternoon with Choza Chula and games with some of the local children at the library
  • Or just relax and do nothing
  • Multiple venues and activities to explore during your stay

THE FOOD

The Swell Nosh Bar nourishes the feel-good vibe with nightly drinks, fresh juices and a variety of tasty food options. You will not go hungry.  The majority of meals will be prepared by one of the most charming and welcoming chefs ever we’ve ever met backed by a local kitchen staff that has been preparing meals for us for years. Every meal is cooked from scratch with only the best local ingredients.   Every meal will be thoughtful, tasteful, and nutritious. Most of our meals will be enjoyed in the kitchen as a family but the tapas menu is available all day into the evening.

THE Space

For a Guatemalan getaway that balances boho-chic with elegance and design, Swell is the ideal combination of a cozy home-like feeling with the personalized guest attention and service of a boutique hotel. Set between a tropical garden and a cozy open lounge area, the guests are greeted by the commanding sight of an impressive 20m turquoise-blue swimming pool surrounded by a natural pine wood deck.

Andy Manzi
Trip Leader +Yoga teacher + surf instructor

After returning home from the Marines, I found myself working through the effects of my war experience. I was introduced to surfing, and from my first ice-cold winter surf, I knew I had discovered something important.
Surfing and yoga changed my life and helped me overcome those difficulties, open my heart back up to the world, and helped me love a little more. It wasn’t long before I knew this was something that other people could benefit from, so I began to teach surf.  Which eventually led to the creation of the Warrior Surf Foundation.  There is something powerful about the ocean, yoga, and engaging in both amongst your peers.
Through my work with veterans, I began to wonder if I could provide similar experiences to everyone, all walks of life.  We all are exceptional deep down, and sometimes it takes a bit of vulnerability and a few bold action steps to realize this.  El Paredon has been that place for me.  A place to put myself out there and maybe to get a glimpse of truly who I am—a place of growth and blossoming.
Andy has lived and visited El Paredon for over six years and has run ten surf and yoga retreats for veterans and colleagues. He has coached surf for nine years and received his 200 hr RYT from Hot Asana University.  In 2015 he co-founded Warrior Surf Foundation and 2017 top 10 CNN hero.
